The borough of Delta, PA has a proud history, dating from its incorporation in 1880. Earlier settlers in the region were Scottish and Irish immigrants, and in the 19th century the town became a thriving mercantile center as the major stop on the Maryland-Pennsylvania Railroad between Baltimore, MD and York, PA.
The area’s slate and green marble quarries attracted workers from Wales, who brought their love of music to the locale.
Today the borough exists as a small Victorian village, with its entire Main Street listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its structures’ unique architectural styles. Both townspeople and visitors participate in bi-annual Welsh singing festivals which attract hundreds of people from across the U.S., Canada, and Wales; heritage festivals are also popular, as are fire company parades and fairs.
In the 21st century, Delta promotes its location with proximity to major metropolitan cities, combined with its rural, small-town atmosphere and cottage industries.
